I’ve started a little bit of spring cleaning this month and I came to the conclusion that I’m a hoarder…of magazines. I probably had about 20 lbs worth of paper publications and at first, had no idea what to do with them. The solution? Paper Wall Art! Now, I’m not talking about plastering my wall from floor to ceiling in ripped out magazine pages like I did in middle school, (although some of those collages were pretty epic) but I was pretty pleased with my end result of collages and paper wreath and fans. See for yourself below!
Making these paper crafts is really simple! For the wreath, simply tear out your favorite magazine pages (I used about 28, but you can use less) and you’ll roll them into cone shapes. Place the page horizontally in front of you with the torn edge closest to you. Being rolling the paper from either the right or left corner until it is shaped like a cone and tape it in place. Once you’ve finished making all of your cones, take a glass or bowl to create a perfect circles for the center–you’ll need one for the front and the back. Use a more structured piece of paper (I used the front and back covers of the magazine). Finally, place all of your cones in a circle and tape the center circles to the center of the cones. For added support you can tape or glue the cones together before taping on the center circle.
For the fans, you’ll start the same way as the wreath with a magazine page, torn edge closest to you. Then, fold the paper back and forth to create the accordion fold. Next, fold it in half and staple the middle to keep in place. Finally, take to fans and connect the middles of each with tape to create the bow shape.
Happy crafting!
