Whether you’re in school, just starting out or a veteran fashionista, breaking your way into the fashion industry usually requires one to wear many hats throughout their career. Someone I know that balances the fashion juggling act to perfection is Maggie Eaton. This Connecticut native is a fashion & journalism student, stellar intern & College Fashionista Style Guru with effortlessly chic style. Not to mention she’s a pro behind a camera & does rock climbing! Read on, to learn more about her. P.S. How glam is her faux fur coat?!
STYLE TAB: How would you describe your personal style?
MAGGIE EATON: I find this to be one of the hardest questions to answer. When I ask this for CollegeFashionista, I’m literally amazed when a girl can give me a short and sweet answer. Personally, I feel like my style is always evolving, and I surprise even myself from day to day. I can be natural and quirky just as comfortably as I can be refined, ladylike, and classic.
ST: Who is/are your style icon(s)?
ME: Great style is so much more than clothes, which is why I look to strong, beautiful women for my inspiration. For me Audrey Hepburn and Diane von Furstenberg are the best examples. Audrey is simply iconic, the pinnacle of classic style. I love even more that she was said to be the “tabloid’s nightmare” — they just couldn’t say a bad thing about her. Diane as a person and a designer is so inspiring to me. As a prominent designer and the president of the CFDA she is immersed in the fashion industry and remains surprisingly down to earth. Follow her on Twitter and you’ll know what I mean.
ST: What’s your best piece of style advice?
ME: Like anything else in life, finding a balance in fashion is key. Going outside your comfort zone, never second-guessing, and experimenting with fashion is what makes it so exciting. On the other hand, finding your niche and staying true to yourself is what makes your style personal.
ST: Where do you find inspiration?
ME: I try to just keep my eyes open. The people around me and the people I see on the streets every day are the greatest inspiration. The runways are fantastical, conceptual, and idealistic. The streets are creative, personal, and ultimately real.
ST: What’s your favorite trend for Spring 2012?
ME: I’m a huge fan of timeless pieces with a modern twist. My favorite for this season is neon brights, like this signature DvF Harper Bag in neon pink, orange, or yellow.
